This Privacy Policy applies to the Ziro Taxi passenger app ("the app"), which lets passengers see shared-taxi availability and book private hires on the Old Ziro–Hapoli route in Arunachal Pradesh, India. The app is operated by the Ziro Taxi team ("we", "us"). Drivers use a separate app with its own privacy policy.
We use this information solely to operate the taxi-matching service: signing you in through your Google account, showing nearby availability, creating and tracking your booking, letting you and your driver contact each other during a hire, checking fares against the official rate card, and improving reliability. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
Your location is used to place you on the map, to set the pickup point of a booking, and to show how far away your assigned driver is.
While you are waiting for a shared taxi, the app shares your location with nearby drivers, and continues to do so in the background.
When you choose a destination and start waiting, the app runs a foreground service — you will see an ongoing notification reading "Ziro Taxi — Waiting · Drivers can see your location". This lets drivers on the route see where passengers are waiting so they know where to stop. Because it keeps working while your screen is off or the app is not in front, you do not have to keep the app open while you wait at the roadside.
If you have turned notifications off for this app, that ongoing notification cannot be shown. Waiting still works, and your location is still shared with drivers while you wait — so the app tells you on screen when you start waiting that sharing has begun and that no notification will appear. Without the notification you need to keep the app open, because Android stops a foreground service that has none. You can turn notifications back on at any time from the Account tab.
Location sharing stops as soon as you tap cancel, which removes your waiting entry and dismisses the notification. Outside of waiting for a taxi or an active hire, the app does not collect your location in the background.
Data is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics) on Google servers. Signing in uses Google Sign-In, so Google also processes your sign-in as described in its own privacy policy. Your phone number is shared with a driver only for the duration of a hire you booked, so the two of you can coordinate the ride. Your email address and name are not shared with drivers at all. Aggregate, non-identifying counts of waiting passengers are shown to drivers — these contain no personal details. We do not share your data with advertisers or unrelated third parties.
We keep account and trip data only as long as needed to run the service. You can ask us to delete your account and its associated data at any time — see Delete your account and data for what is removed and how long it takes, or email solictic3@gmail.com from the Google account you signed in with, or with the phone number you registered.
The app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
